Peptide names need a closer look.

It describes a substance, not a promise about care.

The assumption to check

Does peptide mean a single kind of treatment?

A clearer starting point

It describes a substance, not a promise about care.

Start with the word itself

A peptide is a substance made from a short chain of tiny joined parts. Insulin belongs to this group.

The name of the specific substance matters more than the umbrella word. Ask for the full name rather than accepting a phrase such as a peptide blend.

Approved products have a specific identity

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates drugs in the US.

Semaglutide has uses in weight loss and type 2 diabetes care. Its FDA-approved products include Wegovy for weight loss and Ozempic for type 2 diabetes (checked September 2026).

Approval applies to a specific medicine and purpose; broad claims about peptides still need their own check.

Made for a patient is a different category

The FDA uses compounding to mean making a patient’s medicine instead of providing a finished drug made in a factory.

Compounded medicine lacks FDA approval. Before these drugs go on sale, the agency does not review whether they are safe, how well they work, or the quality of their preparation (checked September 2026).

Compounding is a term for how a medicine is prepared. Whether a particular preparation meets the rules needs a separate check.

A cream does not settle an injection question

A cosmetic, such as a face cream meant only to change how you look, generally needs no FDA approval before sale. Colour additives are an exception (checked September 2026).

FDA rules treat a product as a drug when it is sold for treating disease or altering the body’s function, even if it is a cream (checked September 2026).

A claim about a skin cream does not answer a question about an injection. Ask about the exact form being offered.
